The Post-Impressionist painter Paul Gauguin's "The Red Cow" (1889) was painted in Le Pouldu near Pont-Aven in Brittany. A red cow appears in the foreground with an area of farmland. The row of isolated trees that divide the centre of the canvas look to be slightly out of place in this setting.
